Concentration

My Concentration captures the beauty beyond the lights and glamour of the Las Vegas Strip. As a native of Vegas, I wanted to dispel the myth of it being nothing more than Sin City. Through each journey I took, I was presented with a different feeling of awe with the sights that I was a witness to. The photographer that most inspired me was Ansel Adams and his ability to provide truly breathtaking landscapes with his use of black and white and various shades of gray.

Through each shot I took, I went on a journey to find a place that I would want to show to people and say that this is the true Las Vegas. With each shot, I wanted to use different elements to make a beautiful photo that makes people notice the details they didn’t know were there. I learned that to achieve such an impressive photo, I needed to have several components working together. The first aspect of my concentration was some of the interesting architecture that we have aside from the Strip. I had to drive far to find ghost towns and the Hoover Dam in order to show off the impressive history of Las Vegas. The other part I had to focus on was getting the best lighting and for that, morning was the best time to shoot so I often woke up at four in the morning to shoot. This morning light made the colors and the landscapes in my photos visually compelling as seen in the valley, the golf course, and the cloudy mountain. For some of these shots, the weather played an incredible role because it allowed for another beautiful aspect of the photos to be realized. Going on this journey made me realize how hard it is to be a successful artist though I am glad I undertook this journey because all the great elements culminated into my magnum opus of the overlooking shot of the entire valley.
